South College Canvas: A Student Login and Resource Guide
Navigating the digital landscape of college can be daunting, especially when it comes to accessing essential resources and course materials. This guide provides South College students with a comprehensive overview of how to log in to Canvas, access library resources, and optimize their study habits for success.
Accessing Canvas: Your Gateway to Course Materials
Canvas is South College's learning management system, serving as the central hub for accessing course syllabi, assignments, grades, and communication tools. The first step to engaging with your courses is logging in. Select the Student sign in. Once logged in, students can navigate their courses, view announcements, participate in discussions, and submit assignments.
Unlocking Library Resources: A Treasure Trove of Knowledge
The South College Library offers a wealth of resources to support student learning and research. From online databases to physical books, the library provides access to a vast collection of materials.
Logging in to Library Resources from Off-Campus
The process to log into library resources from off-campus has changed to a new multi-factor authentication.
Exploring the Library's Collection
The library has made an upgrade to our library search. Along with our online collection, the library’s physical holdings are now fully searchable via the Library Search box on the library’s homepage. Filter results for physical books by applying the “Catalog Only” limiter.

Specialized Resources: Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy
Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy contains nearly 330 videos of real human anatomic specimens in their natural colors, Videos show moving structures-muscles, tendons, and joints-making the same movements that they make in life. The videos show complex structures step by step-from bone to surface anatomy-to provide a foundation for understanding anatomical structure and function.
Copyright Considerations for Students
As with articles and other content found online, it is better to provide a link to a library subscription ebook or journal article for your students to retrieve. However, some library subscriptions' licensing does allow content to be embedded in Canvas. For many ebooks, the library may be able to provide you with a direct link to include in your courses that will redirect students to the library's ebook access point. Each individual student may decide to read or view the work online, download, or print the work for their own personal, educational use. If a student uses a work, the use is no longer for profit but for education.
Reserve Service
The library offers a service called Reserve, which allows faculty to place copyrighted material on hold or "reserve" for students of a specific class to read or view.

Optimizing Your Study Habits: A Path to Academic Success
Effective study habits are crucial for academic success. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your study time:
Planning and Time Management
At the start, look over your course syllabi and understand what is expected of you in each course you are taking. Mark out blocks of time (on a physical or online calendar) for study prior to important due dates and tests. It’s best to study over multiple days and not to cram. Plan accordingly. Make sure your study plan doesn’t conflict with other commitments so that you are more likely to stick to it.
Copyright Information
In general, it is always better to provide a citation to the original location of a work found online than to upload or embed the work in a Canvas course. As a for-profit institution, some of the educational exceptions in the US Code are not applicable to South College. For faculty "in a for-profit environment, the nature of the use will always be commercial" (Carson, 2008). The library provides a Copyright Guide as a faculty reference guide. The guide includes information on Fair Use, the library’s Reserve service mentioned above, and copyright related to placing items in Canvas.
