Unlocking Your Potential: Internship Opportunities with TED and TEDx

TED, a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas, offers various internship opportunities for individuals passionate about curiosity, reason, wonder, and the pursuit of knowledge. These internships provide a unique platform to contribute to a global community and gain valuable skills in various fields. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues.

The Allure of TED Internships

A TED or TEDx talk can be incredibly exciting and inspiring. For individuals embarking on a new phase in their lives, a TED internship offers the chance to develop skills, learn new things, and enhance their resumes. Moreover, it provides an opportunity to connect with a brilliant crowd and contribute to spreading new ideas and fresh perspectives.

TEDx Internship: A Closer Look

TEDx is a grassroots initiative that embodies TED’s mission of researching and discovering “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx events bring the spirit of TED to local communities globally. These events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and share the latest research in their local areas that spark conversations in their communities. TEDx events include live speakers and recorded TED Talks and are organized independently under a free license granted by TED.

The TEDx Community

When you support the TEDx program, you enable efforts to empower and grow the global TEDx community of volunteers. Planning and designing a TEDx event is a big endeavor.

TEDxMiddlebury: A Case Study

TEDxMiddlebury, started in 2010 by Cloe Shasha, exemplifies the TEDx spirit. The event combines TEDTalks video and live speakers to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Every year TEDxMiddlebury holds a Student Speaker Competition. We invite all students to enter in the competition. Students share a four minute speech of a topic which they are passionate about that is related to the year’s theme. Inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk, our theme - Roots and Reach - explores the journey from where we begin and where we dare to go. Like Jack, who climbed into the unknown with courage and curiosity, we hope to reflect on the foundations that ground us and the aspirations that drive us. In a world of both limitless possibility and constant complexity and unrest, Roots and Reach emphasizes the importance of grounding ourselves while pursuing ambitious goals. Caitlin Myers, John G.

Skills and Expectations for TEDx Interns

TEDxMileHigh, for instance, seeks interns who take initiative, have collaborative mindsets, and can clearly express ideas and opinions. Passion and authenticity are highly valued, along with enthusiasm for making a difference in the TEDxMileHigh community. Ideas come to life directly through the people who attend our conferences.

Adding Value as a TEDx Intern

Adding value goes beyond simply contributing to weekly team meetings or attending every event. It starts with the first touchpoint of communication: the application process. Be bold and confident in your answers, know that you have what the team is looking for-and needs. Don’t be afraid to speak up about your abilities and skills, and don’t be afraid to suggest a role that might work better for you and for the organization. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to be human. Think about your interview as an authentic conversation with interesting people. Make sure you pick their brains too.

Demonstrating Your Capabilities

Creating an online portfolio, especially for those interested in marketing or design, allows TEDxMileHigh to see what you’ve done. Become a TED connoisseur. Not only do we advise binge watching TED talks, but spend time evaluating them. What similarities are there? Volunteering at events is also a great way to learn more about the organization. Join Adventures or attend an event like TEDxMileHigh: Uncommon. One way to boldly get your foot in the door at TEDxMileHigh is to create your own position or title within the organization. You may see the opportunity to create a role based on your unique skill set that benefits the team just as much as it benefits you. At the end of the day, you need to add value to what TEDxMileHigh is already asking of you as an intern.

TED Conferences Internship: A Focus on Marketing

The TED Conferences team seeks detail-oriented and curious Marketing Interns or Temporary Associates to support flagship events like TED2026 and TEDNext 2025.

The TEDx Talk Curator Internship: Identifying Ideas Worth Spreading

TED is looking for recent graduates who are media savvy and can articulate well-formed opinions. You need to feel a personal stake in the future of science, politics, philosophy, art, and/or pop culture, and demonstrate bona fides in one or two of those fields. This is not about what you're majoring in -- we're looking for deep personal interest. Do you blog about art? Do you curate a YouTube channel about pop culture? Do you and your friends get into passionate debates on the caliber of obscure German philosophers? We will look at your application particularly closely if you're fluent in more languages than just English.

Responsibilities

Your primary mission will be to watch, optimize and publish talks put forward by the TEDx community. Globally, the TEDx initiative produces up to 500 talks every week and we need smart people to watch each one and identify the best and most urgent, so we can help share those ideas with a wider public. It's not as simple as you might think -- there will be long hours watching video after video on a computer screen while you struggle to keep a clear-headed appreciation of our mission. We've been there. But if you love learning and sharing your opinion, it can be very rewarding. Your input will help guide not just the talks that we feature on TED.com, but our TEDx platform as well.

Skills to Develop

A few skills you can expect to practice or learn: How to express a compelling opinion that leads to action. How best to contribute in a collaborative, opinionated workplace. How to give a great TED talk (and what makes a talk fail).

The Application Process

To apply, please include your résumé and a cover letter telling us why we should care what you think. Send us links to the intelligent things you've said online, or a paper or article you've written.
