Core Responsibilities and Duties
The primary responsibility of a UCF Custodian is to perform a variety of daily custodial tasks to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of UCP facilities. These tasks encompass classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas. The specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning Classrooms: This involves sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; dusting furniture and fixtures; cleaning whiteboards and other instructional surfaces; emptying trash receptacles; and ensuring a tidy and organized learning environment. Maintaining a clean classroom is essential for promoting a healthy and productive atmosphere for students and teachers alike.
- Maintaining Offices: Custodians are responsible for keeping office spaces clean and presentable. This includes dusting desks, chairs, and other office equipment; vacuuming or mopping floors; emptying trash cans; and cleaning windows and glass surfaces. A clean and organized office environment contributes to employee morale and productivity.
- Sanitizing Restrooms: Restrooms require frequent and thorough cleaning to maintain hygiene and prevent the spread of germs. Custodial duties in restrooms include cleaning and disinfecting toilets, sinks, and countertops; restocking supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper; sweeping and mopping floors; and emptying trash receptacles.
- Cleaning Kitchens: Kitchen areas, whether in classrooms or dedicated kitchen spaces, must be kept clean and sanitary to ensure food safety. Custodial tasks in kitchens may include washing dishes, wiping down counters and appliances, cleaning sinks, sweeping and mopping floors, and emptying trash cans.
- Upkeep of Common Areas: Common areas such as hallways, lobbies, and break rooms require regular cleaning to maintain a welcoming and presentable environment. Custodial duties in these areas include sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; dusting furniture and fixtures; cleaning windows and glass surfaces; emptying trash receptacles; and ensuring that the areas are free of clutter.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
To be successful as a UCF Custodian, certain skills and qualifications are essential. These may include:
