UCLA Rose Bowl Student Section Guide: Enhancing the Game Day Experience

College football is back, Bruins! Whether you're a returning UCLA football fan or a first-time Rose Bowl guest, planning your game day is essential for a smooth and enjoyable experience. This guide provides essential information and tips to maximize your experience in the UCLA Rose Bowl student section.

Getting to the Rose Bowl

One of the easiest ways for students to get to the Rose Bowl is by the Rooter Bus, a shuttle bus that takes riders from the UCLA campus to the Rose Bowl and back again for all home football games.

Rose Bowl's Clear Bag Policy

Be sure to adhere to the Rose Bowl’s clear bag policy. The policy allows three types of bags: a clear 12 inch by 6 inch by 12 inch tote, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a small 4.5 inch by 6.5 inch clutch bag. Ensure your bag meets one of these requirements or be prepared to have it checked outside the Rose Bowl. If your belongings fit in your pockets, even better!

Fan Zone

The Fan Zone features booths and exhibits from UCLA’s corporate and community partners. Guests are welcome to take part in the interactive games, giveaways, prize wheels, enter-to-win opportunities, and displays. There are also food vendors available if you’re hungry, but remember to bring cash - some of the vendors don’t accept cards.

Changes to the Seating Areas for the 2024 Season

The UCLA Bruins football program announced some changes to the seating areas at the Rose Bowl for the 2024 season. UCLA Football will now have student sections available in standing room only. The student section from sections 2 through 6 will consist of safe standing areas. They will also be able to get UCLA students closer to the action than they have ever been at the Rose Bowl.

The school is moving part of its student section behind the visiting team’s bench ahead of its first Big Ten season. At least 1,000 Bruins students will be placed in the front rows of four sections directly behind the visiting team at the Rose Bowl next season as part of a seating reconfiguration designed to enhance the team’s home-field advantage, UCLA announced Wednesday. School officials said this will make UCLA the only Big Ten team to have its students sitting directly behind the opponent. “I am very excited that our student section is being moved,” UCLA quarterback Ethan Garbers said. “This is going to be instrumental to our success at home this year.”

New Student Section Configuration

As part of the new student section configuration, some will be seated in the first seven to 10 rows of Sections 2 to 6 on the east sideline - including seats on the 50-yard line. Students also will be seated in five adjacent sections in one corner of the stadium, accompanied by the band between roughly the 10- and 25-yard lines.

“By moving closer to the action, our new student section will further elevate the in-game experience for students and student-athletes alike,” Nick Brown, president of the student fan group The Den, said in a statement. “Every eight-clap will mean that much more - and give our Bruins an even stronger home-field advantage.”

Home Schedule

UCLA’s home schedule includes games against Indiana, Oregon, Minnesota, Iowa, USC and Fresno State. The first game at the Rose Bowl for the Bruins is slated for September 14th against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Rose Bowl: A Storied Venue

The Rose Bowl has been the home of the Bruins football team since 1982. The Rose Bowl is one of the most famous college football stadiums in the country. The current seating capacity is just over 91,000.

Reviving Excitement

It’s the latest change intended to revive excitement in UCLA football after the school posted its three lowest Rose Bowl attendance averages under coach Chip Kelly before his departure last week to take the offensive coordinator job at Ohio State. UCLA also is expected to revive its spring game and the pregame Bruin Walk at the Rose Bowl. Athletics officials have said there’s already been an uptick in ticket sales since former UCLA running back and longtime assistant coach DeShaun Foster was hired as Kelly’s successor.
