Aquatics: Lifeguard

UCLA Recreation seeks dedicated Lifeguards to ensure pool safety and provide excellent service. Lifeguards enforce rules, prevent accidents, and respond to emergencies.

Requirements:

  • 300-yard continuous swim
  • Underwater brick retrieval
  • 2-minute treading water

Pay Rate:

  • UCLA student: \$20.00 - \$21.87

Training:

Paid training includes American Red Cross Lifeguard, Blood Borne Pathogen, and Emergency Oxygen certifications, plus UCLA facility-specific training.

Competitive Sports

Instructors develop and lead specific UCLA Martial Arts instructional classes, responsible for curriculum, lesson planning, and instruction.

Member Services & Support: Customer Relations Specialist

Customer Relations Specialists provide information and support regarding Recreation services to UCLA affiliates, members, and staff.

Marketing

  • Graphic Designer: Design materials for print, web, and social media to promote UCLA Recreation programs and events.
  • Marketing Assistant: Create engaging social media content to promote UCLA Recreation programs and facilities. Serve as a UCLA Recreation brand ambassador. The candidate will work closely with different unit program coordinators to create and implement social media campaigns.
  • Photographer: Photograph programs and events for marketing materials and social media.
  • Videographer: Film programs and events for marketing materials and social media, creating final edited videos.

Outdoor Adventures

  • Equipment Rental Center: Employees clean, maintain, and restock equipment, check items in and out, and assist with outdoor education workshops.
  • Bike Shop: Staff provide customer service, educate patrons about bicycles, assess bikes for repairs, and conduct minor repairs. If you are passionate about cycling, and interested in helping our cycling community grow, then this is the place for you!
  • Challenge Course Team Building Program Assistant & Facilitator: Challenge Course staff lead groups through memorable team building experiences involving high ropes climbing elements, low ropes elements, ice breakers, and games. Join our team as a Program Assistant and we’ll provide all the technical and “soft” skills training you need to become a Challenge Course Team Building Facilitator.
  • Rock Wall Staff: Rock wall staff work oversee open recreation climbing, teach bouldering classes, and host private events at the rock wall. During open recreation climbing, staff ensure that participants are informed on and follow facility rules. Periodically, rock wall staff will also instruct introductory bouldering classes. Additionally, rock wall staff host reserved, private events for groups looking to have a fun, educational experience at the rock wall.

Recreational Technology: Rec Tech (Recreational Mechanical Technician)

The Rec Tech position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the maintenance, alteration, and repair of our Recreation facilities and of the equipment within.

Sports Venues & Event Operations: Operations and Events Assistant

Provide maintenance and operational support for Pauley Pavilion, Drake Track Stadium, and the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Duties include event setup/strike, customer relations, and facility access control.

Student Activities Center: Operations Assistant

The position of Operations Assistant is a customer service-focused role, requiring the individual to provide all patrons that use the facility with the best possible experience. Whether the employee will be giving information to a prospective student regarding campus life or unlocking spaces in the facility, Operations Assistants serve to enhance the experience of any client or building occupant.

Summer Camps

  • Camp Counselor: Implement curriculum, supervise children, facilitate pool time, manage lunch/snack/sunscreen, and lead outdoor rotations.
  • Rotation Leader: Execute program curriculum, oversee counselors, and support camp operations.
  • Camp Coordinator: Plan programming, supervise campers and counselors, attend to injuries, and liaise with parents.

Sunset Canyon Recreation Center: Operations Assistant and Swim Instructor

Become a UCLA Rec Swim Instructor! Interviews will take place at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center's Family Pool. To be hired, applicants must possess a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI) Certification. Applicants that do not possess either certification will be considered for selection into a UCLA WSI class, with hiring based on successful completion of the class.

Swim Instructor Requirements:

  • Swim 25 yards each of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and butterfly (15 yards) with proper technique.
  • Float on back for one minute.
  • Tread water for one minute.
  • Successfully complete mock teaching scenarios.

Esports Team

  • Arena Staff Member: Maintain daily operations at the Bruin Esports & Gaming Lounge (BEGL) and the Esports Training Center (ETC), ensuring the space is functional, welcoming, and well-managed for all users.
  • Broadcast Coordinator: Manage the Bruin Broadcasting club initiative and oversee broadcasting efforts at events.
  • Design Coordinator: Responsible for graphic and media design for all Esports & Gaming properties.
  • Logistics Coordinator: Assists in overseeing event operation logistics, from event management workflows to tournament administration.
  • Marketing Coordinator: Supports the creation and execution of marketing campaigns for UCLA Esports & Gaming.
  • Marketing Lead: Responsible for creating and executing marketing campaigns for esport and gaming events.
  • Photo/Videographer Coordinator: Responsible for capturing and producing high-quality visual media at key UCLA Esports & Gaming events.

Gymnastics Supervisor

The Recreation Gymnastics Supervisor is responsible for supervision and safety of all participants of open recreation in Yates Gymnasium. The gymnastics supervisor ensures that patrons observe all university and departmental policies during designated open recreation hours.

Marina Aquatic Center Instructor Positions

  • Instructor Positions: Kayaking, Rowing, Sailing, Surfing, Windsurfing - Skilled instructors, with sport-specific knowledge and experience needed to teach recreational group classes and private lessons.
  • Dockmaster: Supervise MAC equipment rentals, facility programs, and assist community patrons.
  • Maintenance Assistant: Assist the MAC Marine Maintenance Technician with facility upkeep, routine maintenance, and equipment repair.
