Home-Schooled Applicants

Home-schooled applicants should meet the ACT/SAT requirement, as well as the grade point average (GPA) requirement and the college preparatory curriculum minimum unit requirements, if they present certified transcripts at the completion of their programs. Students who do not present certified transcripts must take the GED and meet the admission requirements as outlined in The University of Alabama GED Admission Policy.

Transfer Students

Transfer applicants must submit official transcripts of all college-level work attempted. If you will have earned fewer than 24 credit hours (36 quarter hours) at the time of your application to the University, have your high school transcript and ACT or SAT score(s) sent to The University of Alabama. You must have a 2.0 GPA on any college-level coursework attempted.

Non-Degree-Seeking Students

If you are interested in enrolling in undergraduate courses without earning a degree, you may apply as a non-degree-seeking student. Under this status, you may take up to 12 credit hours. Taking non-degree coursework will not make you admissible to the degree program if you do not meet the minimum admission requirements.

Students with Talents

Because the university regards both academic and non-academic criteria within undergraduate application review, the university will consider students with talents that contribute positively to the campus culture and enhance institutional priorities as defined by university leadership. The Office of Admissions may allow for an expedited application review for students within these categories and may employ greater flexibility in consideration of students with specific talents or the availability of increased academic support.

Adult Freshmen

Freshman with fewer than 24 earned hours must provide an official high school transcript and any official college transcript(s) for earned college hours. You must have a 2.0 GPA on any college-level coursework attempted. If you will have earned fewer than 24 credit hours (36 quarter hours) at the time of your application to the University, have your high school transcript and ACT or SAT score(s) sent to The University of Alabama.

Non-Graduates of High School

Admission may be granted to non-graduates of high school who are 18 years of age and have been out of high school for a minimum of one year. Applicants must score a minimum of 510 on the old General Educational Development (GED) Test or a minimum of 150 on the current GED test and submit acceptable ACT or SAT scores. Applicants 23 years of age and older are required to score a minimum 510 on the old GED test or a minimum of 150 on the current GED test. In addition, they may be required to submit ACT or SAT scores for advising purposes.

Applicants Graduating More Than Four Years Prior

If you completed high school more than four years before your application date, you must have had a 2.5 high school GPA. No ACT/SAT scores are required if high school graduation or GED was more than four years before your application date.

Applicants Graduating Less Than Four Years Prior

If you completed high school less than four years before your application date, you must have had a 3.0 high school GPA. If graduation was less than four years before your application date, you must submit official test scores.

Scholarships: Rewarding Excellence

To be considered for scholarships, there is an application you must fill out by December 1st. For competitive scholarships, students are considered regardless of the decision to submit standardized test scores as long as they meet the appropriate deadlines for their intended entry term. For automatic merit scholarships, students must choose to submit standardized to scores and be mindful of appropriate deadlines for their intended entry term in order to be considered. (Only students who submit standardized test scores or are designated as National Merit Scholars are eligible for automatic merit scholarships.)

The Academic Fresh Start Policy

The Academic Fresh Start Policy is for former University of Alabama graduate students whose prior performance in graduate-level classes may not be reflective of their current potential. If students are granted admission under the Academic Fresh Start policy, whether to a new program or to the program where they had previously been enrolled, only their grades and credits earned after their readmission will be counted towards degree completion (with the exception of any credit hours applied toward an existing degree, certificate, or credential).
