Navigating the University of Louisville: A Comprehensive Guide for Students
The University of Louisville (UofL) offers a wide array of resources and requirements for its students, both on-campus and online. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of key aspects of student life at UofL, from initial enrollment to accessing support services and resolving potential issues.
Getting Started: Admission and Enrollment
All prospective students are encouraged to accept their offer of admission and pay the $100 enrollment deposit. This deposit is non-refundable but will be applied to your tuition.
Account Activation
After being admitted, it's crucial to activate your ULink account within 60 days.
New Cards Orientation
Students who have submitted their enrollment deposit can register for a required New Cards Orientation session. Orientation registration typically begins in February. Log in to the New Cards Gateway to submit payment for orientation and gain access to registration. These sessions provide valuable information about registration, financial aid, library services, graduation requirements, academic support, and other essential services, laying a foundation for success at the university. Some programs may require students to complete orientation before registration, so it's important to check with your program’s enrollment counselor for specific requirements. Orientation sessions are available both on campus and online.
Placement Exams
To ensure you enroll in courses appropriate for your skill level, you may be required to complete a placement exam. Check the Gateway section of your New Cards Gateway for a checklist starting in February to determine if you need to take a placement exam.

The Cardinal Card: Your Student ID
Every student at the University of Louisville is required to have a Student ID, also known as the Cardinal Card. This card confirms your status as a UofL student and grants you access to various rights, privileges, and responsibilities.
Obtaining and Using Your Cardinal Card
You can receive one free Cardinal Card during your time at UofL. The card includes a photo. Beyond identification, the Cardinal Card offers various discounts on goods and services, including airline flights, books, and laptops. A library number is assigned after applying for a Cardinal Card.
Cardinal Card for Online Students
As an online student, you are also entitled and encouraged to possess a Louisville Cardinal Card.
Employee Status
If you are an employee of the university, your employee status will override your student status for ID card verification purposes, making you ineligible for a student ID.

Campus Health Services
Campus Health Services offers primary care. A Primary Health Care Fee covers this care.
Support and Grievance Procedures for Online Students
Students enrolled in online programs who have complaints, grievances, or concerns regarding courses taken at the University of Louisville (UofL) should contact UofL's Student Advocate in the Dean of Students office to have the issues resolved in an expeditious, fair, and amicable manner. Students should first seek to resolve their complaints through informal discussion and administrative channels.
External Complaint Options
In the event that the issue is not resolved internally at the University of Louisville, students enrolled in online programs may file complaints with other agencies.
State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA): The Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) in Kentucky handles complaints about the University of Louisville and can act on complaints from students residing in Kentucky and students enrolled in online programs residing in SARA-member states. The student’s home state portal agency may also work with the CPE to resolve the complaint. A non-resident student attending a Kentucky college or university operating through SARA must first exhaust all internal procedures for complaint resolution offered by the college or university before filing a complaint.
Non-SARA States and Territories: Students residing in non-SARA states or territories can file a complaint with an agency in their state of residence.
Accrediting Agency: To file a complaint with University of Louisville’s accrediting agency - the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) - review the Commission’s complaint policy, procedures, and complaint form.
Specialized Programmatic Accreditation: Students enrolled in a program with specialized programmatic accreditation may be able to file academic complaints to that program’s specialized accreditor.
