Following a 6-6-6 season in 2017 (3-5-3 in Big Ten Play), the University of Michigan and Greg Ryan mutually decided to part ways on January 25, 2018.

In February 2018, the University of Michigan announced that Jennifer Klein was selected to lead the Michigan Women's Soccer Program. Klein later signed a contract extension through the 2025 season.

The program achieved its 300th victory on September 12, 2021, led by Loughman's second-half brace. Later that year, on November 7, 2021, the Wolverines captured their first B1G Tournament Title since 1999 with a win over Rutgers.
