Accessibility and Location

This central location makes it easily accessible for students and other members of the UVA community. Understanding the location and accessibility options is essential for utilizing the pharmacy's services effectively.

Address: First floor of the Student Health and Wellness building.

Getting There: Elson Student Health is on the UTS Blue and Green Bus Lines. The University Transit Service (UTS) provides fare-free transportation to University of Virginia students, faculty, and staff. UTS buses regularly drive by Brandon Ave, the closest SHW bus stop. Take the blue line, orange line, silver line or redline bus. Find shuttle stop locations.

Parking: The SHW parking garage is underground on Monroe Lane, accessible from Jefferson Park Avenue. Be cautious not to park in the Monroe apartments' parking garage, as it is reserved for residents, and towing is strictly enforced. P1 parking is designated for students with appointments, requiring car registration via license plate number, with signs available in the office. P2 parking is exclusively for staff/faculty with B3 permits. Parking is limited to two hours. Use of parking for any other purpose is considered a parking violation.

Drug Take-Back Program

The UVA Student Health Pharmacy is committed to environmental health. To that end, we're changing our prescription packaging so you can recycle it. Don't throw away or flush your outdated or unwanted medication as it comes with potential risks. Instead, use the drug take-back program at UVA to safely dispose of your medications. The take-back bins are green metal boxes with a drawer at the top located in the pharmacy. The Pharmacy has a Drug Take-Back box. The box can be found in the retail area of the pharmacy; patients, students and staff can dispose of unwanted medication by dropping their medications into the green metal box any time that the pharmacy is open. Once the bin is full, pharmacy employees will remove the medications from the box and have them destroyed by an outside processor. What's the best thing to do with outdated or unwanted medication? Putting drugs in the garbage or flushing them down the toilet has risks. The safest option is to deposit old prescription drugs at a secure, registered location.

Additional Resources and Information

The Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) is made up of a diverse range of services and professionals who work closely together to support the health and well-being of UVA students. We also collaborate extensively across Grounds and with our UVA Health colleagues on care delivery, initiatives, interventions, and the development of guidelines and protocols related to both physical health and mental well-being. While most of the SHW public areas are available for drop-in, the Department of Student Health and Wellness (SHW) is pleased to offer some reservable spaces for events and programming that are in alignment with our vision of enhancing the well-being and health of our university community. While we make every effort to respond to media inquiries in a timely manner, direct service and care to students remains our top priority. During particularly busy periods of the academic year, or when an inquiry involves topics we have recently addressed, we may need to prioritize accordingly. To protect patient confidentiality, Student Health and Wellness does not permit video recording, photography, or other media activity inside its facilities without prior approval from the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications.
