Valero Alamo Bowl: Championing Education Through Scholarship Programs
The Valero Alamo Bowl extends its impact far beyond the football field through its robust scholarship programs. These initiatives provide substantial financial assistance to deserving high school and college students in the San Antonio area, fostering academic excellence and shaping future leaders.
A Legacy of Giving: Over $1.2 Million Annually
Valero Alamo Bowl scholarship programs annually award over $1.2 million to local high school and college students. Over 160 scholarship winners are recognized each year at special luncheons and during the Valero Alamo Bowl game. This commitment makes the Valero Alamo Bowl a leader among college football bowl games in supporting education.
The Valero Alamo Bowl started its scholarship program in 2002, initially awarding $52,000 in scholarships to 25 San Antonio high school students. The success of the event allowed the Bowl to grow the high school awards and add a college scholarship program in 2016 with matching support from each San Antonio area four-year university.
High School Scholarship Program: Investing in Future Leaders
The Valero Alamo Bowl is committed to furthering the education and careers of young scholars in San Antonio through its high school scholarship program.
The Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship program recognizes outstanding San Antonio high school seniors. In 2025, the Valero Alamo Bowl awarded 102 high school seniors with a $7,500 scholarship, totaling $765,000. These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, teacher/coach recommendations, involvement in extracurricular activities, and varsity sports as well as honors received and a personal narrative.
