The Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation offers scholarships to descendants of the 625 African American men who were victims in the United States Public Health Service Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male at Tuskegee and Macon County, Alabama, 1932-1972. The foundation aims to lift up new voices in the fields of bioethics and health sciences, expand the ethics of care, and create a new tapestry of hope, healing, and trust.

The Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation scholarships are offered to descendants who are graduating high school seniors and have applied and been accepted at an accredited two- or four-year higher education institution. All applicants must have maintained a 3.0-point or better grade point average and have thoroughly completed the scholarship application.
In addition, the Voices Today for Change Tomorrow scholarships are available to descendants pursuing graduate studies with a demonstrated commitment to serving as medical care providers, physician scientists, clinical leaders, medical educators, public health experts, and advocates for rural and urban underserved populations.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, the Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation awarded a total of $66,000 to ten descendants. Eight descendants received Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation scholarships, totaling $28,000. Two descendants were awarded the Voices Today for Change Tomorrow scholarships, each receiving $19,000, for a combined total of $38,000.
Since 2017, the Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation has awarded a total of $79,000 in scholarships to descendants.
Department of Oregon VFW Scholarship Program
The Department of Oregon VFW offers a statewide scholarship program for high school seniors. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students who are connected to the VFW through family membership.

The scholarship is open to any Child, Grand-Child, or Great-Grandchild of a Department of Oregon VFW member who is presently in good standing or was a member in good standing upon their passing.
