First Round Game Recaps

  • #9 Alabama def. No. 8 Oklahoma: The teams traded punches throughout the second half, but Alabama’s defense was too overwhelming in the end. Alabama gets #1 Indiana.
  • #5 Oregon def. No. 12 TCU: Oregon scored touchdowns on their first six drives and TCU couldn’t keep pace. A blocked punt was a twist of the knife.
  • #6 Ole Miss def. No. 11 BYU: No Lane Kiffin, no problem for Ole Miss. The Rebels needed three plays in 59 seconds to take a 7-0 lead, and it was over from there in a rout of the Green Wave. Ole Miss gets a much greater test in round two.
  • #10 Miami (Fla.) def. No. 7 Texas A&M: Miami and Texas A&M held each other scoreless in the first half. Miami’s defense was exceptional.

Quarterfinals Matchups

  • No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 10 Miami (Fla.): Ohio State and Miami each boast one of the nation’s best defenses.
  • No. 4 Texas Tech vs. No. 5 Oregon: Texas Tech is once again one of the most potent offenses in the country. They’re second in points scored and rank fifth in total yards per game, including third in passing. Oregon is also one of the nation’s best offenses again. They’re sixth in points scored and 10th in total yards. And then there are the defenses. Those are top ten units too!
  • No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 9 Alabama: Indiana’s 11-2 season in 2024 was miraculously eclipsed by the first undefeated season in the school’s history since 1945. The Hoosiers and Mendoza get another legacy test against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
  • No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 6 Ole Miss: Ole Miss fared just fine without now-former head coach Lane Kiffin in their round one rout of Tulane. Georgia had one of the most quietly dominant seasons in history. Their defense was once again one of the nation’s most stout, allowing just under 16 points a game and just 284 total yards. Offensively, as is always the case with Georgia, the run game makes the team go. Running back Nate Frazier led the team with 861 yards.
