West Coast Baptist College (WCBC) stands as an independent Baptist Bible college located in Lancaster, California, dedicated to developing leaders with a heart for God. The college focuses on instilling a commitment to the Word, compassion for the lost, and a compelling drive to change communities for Christ. Since its inception, WCBC has remained steadfast in its mission to train laborers for God's harvest.

Foundation and Early Years

The history of West Coast Baptist College traces back to July 1986, when Paul Chappell arrived in the Antelope Valley of Southern California as pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church. Driven by a passion for evangelism and a vision for the church's potential, Chappell led the church to grow through an emphasis on soulwinning and Bible-centered preaching. One of Dr. Chappell’s earliest goals was coalescing a team of quality, biblically minded, doctrinally-sound, and academically-strong faculty. These early instructors provided a strong foundation that has been added to in successive years. In 1988, the church secured its first property-twenty acres on the east side of town-with an initial $50,000 down payment. In 1995, West Coast Baptist College was founded under Pastor Paul Chappell's leadership.

Campus and Programs

Today, the college campus is situated on ninety-six acres, strategically planned to accommodate expansion and the fulfillment of WCBC's mission. As a Bible college, its core concentrations lie in Bible, Pastoral Studies, Missions, Evangelism, Music, Church Ministries, Christian Education, Ministry Leadership Administration, Office Administration, and Secretarial studies. To further equip students for the work of the ministry, WCBC also offers proficiencies in Youth Ministry, Speech, Biblical Counseling, and Graphic Design.

WCBC is inextricably intertwined with Lancaster Baptist Church, a thriving, Baptist church in northern Los Angeles County. At West Coast, not only do the students receive quality academics, they also see their teachers involved in weekly soulwinning and local church ministry at Lancaster Baptist Church.

Accreditation and Affiliations

West Coast Baptist College is a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). It was awarded Candidate Status on October 27, 2015, and approved for Accredited Status on April 18, 2019, and affirmed 10 more years of accreditation on October 24, 2023.

WCBC's athletic teams, known as the Eagles, participate in men's basketball and ladies' volleyball. They are members of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA), and Pacific Christian Athletic Conference.

Doctrinal Stance

West Coast Baptist College holds a conservative theological stance, emphasizing the authority of Scripture. The college believes the Bible to be the revealed Word of God, fully and verbally inspired, inerrant, and infallible, as found within the 66 books from Genesis to Revelation. WCBC upholds the King James Version as the preserved Word of God for English-speaking people and the only acceptable translation to be used in the college.

The college affirms the belief in one God, eternal and immutable, existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It believes in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary sacrifice for mankind's sin, resurrection, and ascension to Heaven. WCBC believes that Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone.

WCBC believes that all men were born with an inherited sin nature received from our common ancestor, Adam. We believe that because of his nature, man is a sinner by choice, and he is totally incapable of reforming himself or ceasing from his sin by his own power. We believe the only hope of deliverance for man is a total change of mind concerning his sinful condition and inability to change it, and a turning to Jesus Christ as the only Saviour. We believe that only through the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ on the cross can a man be delivered from his sin. We believe that all those who reject Jesus Christ as their Saviour are already condemned to an eternity in the lake of fire.

WCBC believes that God has ordained and created all authority consisting of three basic institutions: 1) the home, 2) the church, and 3) the state.

WCBC believes that God created humanity as distinctly and exclusively either male or female from the beginning, and that He blessed His created design as very good. We believe that every human’s true gender identity is identical to the genetic, biological sex with which they were born.

WCBC believes that marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God, given to represent His love for the church, to continue the human race, and to bless humanity. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one biological male and one biological female in a covenant commitment before God.

WCBC believes that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder.

WCBC believes that we should demonstrate love for others, not only toward fellow believers, but also toward both those who are not believers and those who oppose us.

WCBC believes that Christians are prohibited from bringing civil lawsuits against other Christians or the church to resolve personal disputes.

WCBC believes that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

WCBC believes that every Christian, as a steward of that portion of God’s wealth entrusted to him, is obligated to support his local church financially.

Students are taught the importance of accountability to authority and are guided by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. The college emphasizes the preaching of the Word of God and personal soulwinning, and students are taught how to organize effective Sunday school and soulwinning programs.

Paul Chappell's Leadership

Dr. Paul Chappell, as the pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church and the president of West Coast Baptist College, has played a pivotal role in shaping the college's vision and direction. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Chappell graduated from Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Theology in 1983.

Called to Lancaster Baptist in 1986, Chappell has led the church to become one of the largest Baptist churches in the country. Under his leadership, the church began West Coast Baptist College in 1995, training students from nearly all 50 states and 17 foreign countries.
