Accreditation and Recognition
Sophia doesn’t offer degree programs, so accreditation doesn’t apply. Instead, its focus is on offering convenient, affordable online courses that accredited colleges and universities may accept as transfer credits to help you earn your degree. The courses have been recommended for college credit by the American Council on Education’s Learning Evaluation Service and have been approved by the Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC) for Approved Quality Curriculum (AQC) status. The American Council on Education Learning Evaluations (ACE®) has evaluated and recommended college credit for over 70 of Sophia's online courses.
Partner Schools and Institutions
Sophia has 100+ partner schools that have agreed to accept transfer credits. Nearly 3,000 colleges and universities have reviewed Sophia Learning transcripts. If your school is on the list of partners, you may not need to complete additional steps to ensure your completed Sophia coursework is accepted for transfer credit. However, always check with your school’s advisor about the transfer credit policy.
Identifying Partner Schools
Use the Sophia School Search Tool to see if your preferred college or university is on our list of partner schools. If you don’t see your school listed, don’t worry! Sophia Learning transcripts have been sent to more than 2,900 colleges and universities.

Transferring Credits: A Step-by-Step Guide
Each school has different transfer policies, so discuss the process with your advisor to submit your transcripts and earn your transfer credits.
Step 1: Verify Transfer Credits
Once you’ve started, the advising staff at your school can help you figure out if Sophia courses will transfer toward your program with them. Once you’ve verified your transfer credits from Sophia with your academic advisor, complete your courses and earn a passing grade.
Step 2: Consult with Your Advisor
Your admissions or academic advisor is an asset for planning your course schedule. Consult with them to determine what courses you should take and when you should take them to ensure you’re progressing toward your degree and meeting your academic goals. Read more about your advisors here!
Step 3: Complete Courses and Request Transcripts
Once you complete a course successfully, you can request an official transcript through Parchment or Credly for ACE transcripts. Sophia courses never expire! Once you complete a course, the course will not expire and will be available to submit for transfer whenever you're ready. When the time comes, check with your school's registrar for their transfer process. Sophia course completions do not expire and will be available to submit for transfer when you’re ready. At that time, check with your school’s registrar for their credit transfer policies.
Transcript Options
Sophia can send an official Sophia transcript directly to the student’s college or university at no charge. You can access your transcript via Parchment. The process is as simple as creating a Parchment account, following the guided steps to order a transcript, and paying a small delivery fee to have the transcript sent to your school. If the transfer school requires an official transcript from the American Council on Education, you can access this through Credly’s digital credential platform.

Considerations for "The Big 3" Universities
Most of the schools will only accept up to 90 credits transfer limit for their degree programs, COSC, Excelsior, TESU are the only options that allow up to 114. Having said that, Sophia.org only has 25 - 3 credit courses, 2 - 1 credit courses, and 1 - 3 credit developmental/vocational free elective, the most you can get is 75, 2, 3 = 80 credits and the only one of the Big 3 that will accept them all is Excelsior, all 80 of them! All of the Big 3 will take up to 90cr from a single provider, and Sophia only has 80cr. Assuming you completed every course, though, is a stretch. I would say that you should do all of the courses that will fit into all of the Big 3, or better yet, choose a degree (BALS or BSLS) that fits most of your credits. COSC is the cheapest by about $2500, then EC, then TESU. So I'd choose COSC based on price and flexibility, or TESU based on the fact that there are more degrees available.
Residency Requirements
Each of the Big 3 require you to complete a certain amount of credits with their intuitions in order to graduate. For example, TESU requires 12 credits. Nope it is only 6 credits (2 courses) for a bachelor degree at any fo the big 3. However if you are military tesu has a different policy. Also both tesu and excelsior charge a fee if you take less than a certain number of credits. Tesu is 16 meaning if you dont take at least 16 crdits with them you pay a fee. Excelsior is 12 but that do fee structures ifferently than tesu. Idk how charter oak does it. A lot of people on this fourm only do 6 credits at their school. But if you were planning on taking say 10 or more credits at tesu it would probably be worth it to ge tto 16 because this would save you money. Note that as tesu for non military teceps (tesu exam credit) dont count towarss the 16.
