Alpha Delta Pi Scholarships: Requirements and Opportunities

Alpha Delta Pi (ΑΔΠ) is one of the oldest and most respected sororities in the world, committed to scholarship, leadership, and service. As part of this commitment, the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation and various chapters offer a multitude of scholarship opportunities to support their members' academic pursuits and involvement in the Greek community and beyond. These scholarships aim to make Greek life more accessible and inclusive, recognizing outstanding spirit, contributions, and potential.

Alpha Delta Pi Foundation Scholarships

The Alpha Delta Pi Foundation is proud to award approximately 130 competitive academic scholarships each year, totaling more than $190,000. Award amounts vary up to $3,000, and scholarships are available for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education study. Alpha Delta Pi members in good standing who have a 3.2 minimum cumulative GPA (unless otherwise noted) are encouraged to apply.

General Requirements for Alpha Delta Pi Foundation Scholarships

  • Must be an Alpha Delta Pi member in good standing.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (unless otherwise noted).
  • Must be an undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education student.

Chapter-Specific Scholarships

Several Alpha Delta Pi chapters and related organizations offer scholarships with specific criteria and requirements. Here are a few examples:

Beta Gamma of Alpha Delta Pi Scholarship (University of Utah)

This scholarship supports Beta Gamma progeny (descendants of chapter members) at the University of Utah who are involved in service and leadership during their college careers.

Requirements:

  • Must be a member or progeny of a member of the Beta Gamma of Alpha Delta Pi sorority or other chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sororities.
  • Must have completed 24 or more credit hours at the University of Utah or another higher ed. institution by fall 2025.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credits (for undergraduates) or 9 credits (for graduates) each semester next academic year.
  • Must acknowledge the intent to use their own unique voice in their essay response(s), avoiding AI-generated content.
  • Must be highly engaged with the campus community through leadership positions, service projects, and/or involvement in student activities.

UC Berkeley Alpha Delta Pi Scholarship Fund

The Alpha Delta Pi chapter at UC Berkeley has established its own independent scholarship fund to make Greek life more accessible and inclusive. Details about this scholarship, including specific requirements and application procedures, can be obtained directly from the chapter.

Other Greek Life Scholarships (University of Nebraska-Lincoln as Example)

While not exclusively for Alpha Delta Pi members, these scholarships are available to sorority members at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and demonstrate the types of opportunities that exist within the Greek community.

Self-Nominated Scholarships

These scholarships require candidates to apply directly.

Frank Hallgren Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Junior or non-graduating senior fraternity member in good standing with their fraternity.
  • Selection: Based on application by the Awards Selection Committee.
  • Sponsor: Interfraternity Council
  • Recognition: In recognition of Mr. Hallgren’s many years of service to UNL as the Advisor to Interfraternity Council, Dean of Men, and Director of Career Services. Mr. Hallgren was initiated into Alpha Tau Omega.

Panhellenic Spirit Scholarships

  • Eligibility: Current freshmen, sophomore, or junior sorority member who display outstanding spirit and involvement in the Greek, campus, and greater community.
  • Selection: Based on application by the Awards Selection Committee.
  • Sponsor: The Panhellenic Association
  • Establishment: Established in 1999 as a way to recognize Greek women.

Madeline Girard Scholarships

  • Eligibility: Junior sorority member who has made contributions to the Greek community through chapter and sorority-wide programs and/or other out-of-class responsibilities.
  • Requirements: Must be in good standing with their respective chapter, have completed at least 53 credit hours, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better. Financial need is not considered.
  • Selection: Based on application by the Awards Selection Committee.
  • Recognition: Named after Madeline Girard, Executive Director of the University Panhellenic Organization until her retirement in 1969.

Marion Othmer Shultz Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Sophomore sorority member who has made contributions to the Greek community through chapter and sorority-wide programs and/or other out-of-class responsibilities.
  • Requirements: Must have sophomore standing, be in good standing with their respective chapter, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better.
  • Selection: Based on contribution and potential by the Awards Selection Committee.
  • Establishment: Established in 1986 in honor of Mrs. Schultz, a dedicated Alpha Delta Pi and University of Nebraska alumnae, by her husband Dr. C. B. Schultz.

Sigma Kappa Endowed Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Sorority member with sophomore standing or above.
  • Requirements: Must be in good standing with their respective chapter and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above. Financial need is not considered.
  • Selection: Based on application by the Awards Selection Committee.

Delta Tau Delta Scholarship and Achievement Award

  • Eligibility: Full-time undergraduate students who are members in good standing of a recognized fraternity with a chapter at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Applicants must maintain a satisfactory cumulative grade point average and be prominent in one or more campus activities.
  • Selection: Based on application by the Awards Selection Committee.
  • Establishment: Established in 1945 by Delta Tau Delta alumni C. S. Guenzel (initiated into Delta Tau Delta 1911) and H. H. Wheeler to recognize the outstanding achievements of fraternity members.

Selected by Nomination Scholarships

These scholarships require nominations from the individual's chapter.

C. B. Schultz Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Junior or non-graduating senior fraternity member who has shown contributions to the University community through a variety of campus activities/organizations; positive contribution to the Greek community; and active participation in his individual chapter. GPA is only considered in the event of two equal candidates.
  • Selection: Based on nominations submitted by each chapter. No more than three nominees per chapter will be accepted. The recipient will be chosen by the Awards Selection Committee.
  • Sponsor: Interfraternity Council
  • Establishment: Established by the Interfraternity Council in 1976 to honor Dr. C. B. Schultz.

Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society Scholarship

While not exclusive to Alpha Delta Pi members, this scholarship is available to members of the Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society, which recognizes students with disabilities.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be an undergraduate who is matriculated in a program that offers an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree or certification that could lead to a degree.
  • Applicant should be considered full-time. However, if the individual has an exception to the full-time requirement as an accommodation in order to access services and/or maintain eligibility for insurance, that student would be eligible to apply for the scholarship.
  • Applicant must be an active member of the DAPi chapter at the institution they are attending. Active membership is defined as someone who has attended at least 80% of the chapter meetings (either in person or virtually, where applicable) during the 2024-2025 academic year; held office in the organization; and/or organized or assisted with at least one event sponsored by the chapter; and/or served as a mentor for another student with a disability.
  • Applicant must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 on a scale of 4.00 at the time of submitting the application (i.e., a B+ average).
  • Applicant must be attending a college university at the time the scholarship is awarded. Proof of registration, e.g., list of current courses for the spring 2025 semester should be included with the application. The award recipient will be required to provide official proof of registration for the fall 2025 semester from the Records Office or letter from the Registrar. A student who has been active in a chapter of DAPi at a community college and is transferring to an institution that does not have a DAPi chapter is eligible based on participation in the community college chapter.

Required Application Materials:

  • Completed application.
  • Signed letter of recommendation from DAPi chapter advisor who verifies student’s active participation and provides a list of activities/offices held, etc. to support the applicant’s information.
  • Signed letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows the student from class or as a faculty advisor.
  • An official transcript that verifies a cumulative GPA of 3.33 as of the end of the fall 2024 semester.
  • Responses to the following questions:
    • How has participation in Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society helped you develop advocacy and leadership skills?
    • How will you use your education to advance the rights of individuals with disabilities?
