Aspen University's programs are designed for students to work at their own pace. The university offers undergraduate programs, typically completed within 4 years; graduate programs, typically completed in 12 to 30 months; and doctoral programs, potentially completed within 2 to 10 years. The instructors are available as a resource if students have any questions regarding the coursework. Most students take one or two courses at a time, but students may take up to three courses at a time.
The university operates on a session-based system, with multiple start dates throughout the year, providing flexibility for students to begin their studies when it suits them best. For example, the MBA program consists of 11 classes (33 credits) and a capstone project (3 credits), totaling 36 credits. Each class is 10 weeks long, and there are five different sessions to take classes throughout the year. This structure allows motivated students to potentially complete their MBA in a year.
Affordability and Financial Aid
One of the most attractive aspects of Aspen University is its affordability. The cost of a degree is designed to be straightforward and accessible. Aspen University offers a Monthly Payment Plan so that students can build the cost of their degree into their budget. Aspen University also offers financial assistance through the federal student aid program to students who are in need of assistance in paying for the cost of their education. Federal student aid is offered in the form of grants and/or loans. UNISA is Aspen’s third party payment processor, dedicated to higher education institutions and its students.

The DEAC is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency, and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or CHEA (www.chea.org). Aspen University has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide enrollment and degree verifications.
It is recommended to check with local and state requirements, your employer, or the institution to which you would transfer the credits, just to make sure they will be recognized. Different institutions and employers uphold different policies and standards.
Online Classroom Experience
Aspen University requires students to attend class every week in the online learning platform. This is marked by the activity a student participates in each week. An online week for students is Tuesday through Monday, PDT. Students are not permitted to be out of class for more than two consecutive weeks (14 days).
All assignments are available in your online classroom. Each week’s activities are clearly organized in the syllabus. You can view all assignments, due dates and grading criteria to help you plan. You can view and print assignments, discuss them with your fellow students, and ask for feedback from your instructor. All students are active participants in the online classroom. You can contact your professors at any time and will receive written feedback on assignments from them. You can participate in course discussions at any time, day or night, wherever you have an Internet connection. However, your writing assignments and project work can be done offline.
Faculty Interaction and Feedback
Aspen University emphasizes "regular and substantive interaction between faculty and student.” As an Aspen faculty member, this means logging in to courses 2-3 times a week, although daily is ideal. Faculty members are encouraged to bring their own experience and expertise to the discussion. This will ensure students have a full, rich classroom experience when discussing critical elements of the curriculum. Faculty members are also responsible for grading and returning all submitted papers with quality feedback within 7 days after the end of the module, but we recommend 3-7 days after submission.

It is through this interaction that students grow in their understanding of content material, critical thinking skills, and the writing process. Rubrics are available in the online classroom to help faculty provide specific feedback on student performance based on a set of specified criteria.
Discussion Forums
Participating in classroom discussions is critical to the learning experience. Participating in the weekly discussions allows students and instructors to share experiences, investigate complicated subject matter, and share expertise for new perspectives. For the majority of courses, students must post their initial response to the 1st discussion question by Thursday and respond to a peer’s discussion post by Sunday. For some courses, the curriculum may require that you respond to more than one discussion post per week. Always review the course directions and syllabus to ensure you and students are participating fully. Faculty will also need to participate and respond to student questions during each module.
One area where the faculty can have the greatest impact is in the weekly Discussion Forums of a course. While only required to respond in the Discussion Boards several times a week, many Aspen faculty check discussion forums daily, seeking every opportunity to engage students in genuinely meaningful ways. By viewing the discussion question/forum as a way to cognitively challenge students and to have them process the course content more personally, it provides context for greater, more permanent, learning and a more dynamic interaction between the instructor and the student.
Student Support Services
Aspen University offers a range of student support services to help students succeed in their academic journey. The Registrar’s Office is responsible for student records and academic policies. Aspen University’s Accessibility Services provides reasonable accommodations to all students with disabilities, temporary conditions, pregnancy and postpartum status, and religious accommodations to help them achieve their academic goals. The Office of Field Experience (OFE) is responsible for providing assistance with obtaining Immersion/Practicum/Internship approval letters in our graduate-level nursing programs. Documents pertaining to the student, site, and preceptor must be sent and approved by the OFE coordinators. Alumni & Career Services connects students with the resources and information needed to navigate applying and interviewing for jobs and enhancing students’ professional development.
Creating goals and course planning is crucial to staying on track to graduate. Your advisor can help you create a course plan that fits your needs. Students considering going through re-entry should first read the Readmission Policy in the catalog. All readmission applications must be submitted and completed before this deadline. Once accepted, students must register for a course within the next two start dates and attend (matriculate) courses in which they are readmitted.

Transfer Credits and Prior Experiential Learning
Aspen University will evaluate a maximum of 90 credits for transfer into our bachelor’s degree programs, 18 credits for transfer into our master’s degree programs, and 9 credits for transfer into our doctoral degree Programs. Prior Experiential Learning (Portfolio Credit) is any learning experience that was not part of a college or university course and does not carry academic degree credit. Up to 25% of a degree program can be applied in this way. Aspen University will evaluate a maximum of 30 portfolio credits into our bachelor’s degree programs, and a maximum of nine portfolio credits into our master’s degree programs. Please note Portfolio Credits may not be awarded into the Ed.D, or DSCS programs.
