Security Features: Rolling Code Technology

Most garage door openers today operate with rolling code technology. Rolling code technology prevents piracy of the radio signal that opens your garage door by continually seeking a new code from billions of combinations. Many garage door openers in the past operated by ‘fixed code’ technology, also known as ‘dip switch’ technology. Dip Switch technology transmits the same, fixed security code each time the remote button is pressed.

Genie offers Intellicode Security which is a rolling-code technology that offers significant advantages over conventional garage door openers that use fixed codes. Every time your garage-door system is activated, our proprietary Intellicode system selects a new code from billions of possible combinations.

Genie offers auto seek dual frequency (315/390MHz) on all its residential openers and remotes manufactured today. This means that the remotes are always automatically transmitting, and the opener is always automatically searching for TWO different frequencies to find best way to communicate with programmed wireless devices.

Troubleshooting

  • LED Not Lighting: What if the LED on my remote doesn’t light?
  • Range Issues: Range issues where your wireless device works (or sporadically works) in close range but not otherwise. There are several factors that could cause range issues, even if your device was working fine just yesterday. Most Genie remotes operate on either a single 390MHz frequency or a dual 315/390MHz frequency. Any external devices that also operates within this frequency range can cause interference.
    • Possible Radio Frequency Interference Offenders: You can investigate possibilities by removing the household item(s) listed below from power and retry the remote/wireless keypad/wireless wall console function to see if range improves.
  • Remote Not Working After Programming Another Device: Every time I program one remote, another remote or keypad stops working! Each garage door opener or receiver accessory can hold a pre-specified number of wireless (RF) devices. If you are programming another wireless device to your opener or receiver and find a different device has become unpaired - it is possible you have reached the wireless device limit for that product. Older openers and receivers may only hold up to 6 wireless devices where some of the openers manufactured today will hold 16+ devices and some professional grade receivers produced today hold 60+ devices!
    • If you only have a few wireless devices to program and this scenario is happening, it is possible that over time, repeated programming of the same devices have filled up the spots unintentionally.
  • Sure-Lock Feature: If you are using a wired wall console in conjunction with a wireless device such as a remote, keypad or a wireless wall console, check to be sure the Sure-Lock feature on the wired console is off (the backlight is red).
  • Marantec Compatibility issues: Use this remote with Marantec products only one when there are no other remotes or keypads (no other RF products) being used with the opener. There can only be a single ‘fixed rolling code’ programmed to a Marantec device. Each remote or keypad uses that same code. If you introduce the Genie universal remote to an opener that already has remotes and keypads programmed to it, it will erase the code inside those remotes and keypads and they will no longer operate (only your Genie universal remote will work).
