A Holistic Approach to Education and Athletic Development

Lovell Academy is fully dedicated to the advancement of each child academically, as an athlete, and as a human being. Its mission is to educate, instruct, and challenge students to be the very best that they can be. The academy model is an offering for the hockey player that’s dedicated specifically to hockey, focusing on daily training that includes a skill session, an off-ice training session, and a team practice. While the goal is to have competitive teams and play at a high level, the primary focus is on the development of the students Monday through Friday.

Academic Excellence at Lovell Academy

Students at Lovell Academy take an average of six courses each year, encompassing a wide range of subjects, including Science, Math, Language, English Literature, History/Cultural Studies, and Arts. Classes are taught in blocks of approximately 80 minutes, with students taking an average of three classes per day, along with a study block. The students’ academic schedules are tailored to fit around their skating and off-ice training schedules.

Recognizing that some students may have learning differences, Lovell Academy considers accommodating students with learning disabilities or differences requiring a 504 Plan, IEP Plan, or other accommodations on a case-by-case basis.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Lovell Academy boasts impressive facilities, including the Lovell Arena, a state-of-the-art 117,000 square foot ice hockey arena and recreation center conveniently located on the South Shore of Boston. Lovell Arena offers three NHL regulation ice sheets with in-arena seating for 1,500, a Goalie training area, a fitness and strength training center, and a physical therapy space.

The Mezzanine level includes additional entertainment options such as Full Swing Golf Pro Series simulators, four QubicaAMF bowling lanes, a pro shop, an arcade/lounge, concessions, and a multipurpose space. It also features a 7,000 square foot upscale pub/restaurant with views of all three ice sheets.

Students also benefit from studying in eight classrooms including a science lab, an art/music room, and dining in a full-service cafeteria, along with playing two hockey sessions in Lovell Arena. Residential facilities include 11 double rooms and a chaperone suite on each of six residential hallways with two large student lounge and recreation areas, an outdoor patio, and green spaces.

Nutrition and Wellness

Lovell Academy understands the importance of nutrition for young athletes. The academy's food service partner devotes all of their resources and developmental efforts to serving hundreds of schools. They are partners with numerous professional sports teams and create custom nutrition programs to help athletes playing many different sports power their performance. They provide nutrition classes as part of our curriculum and consult with our student-athletes to help them make smart food choices that will ensure their healthy growth and development. Nurses are on-site during the day and on call at night and on weekends, ensuring the well-being of the students.

The Application Process

A prospective student-athlete must submit a complete application including personal responses to application questions, official transcripts and records sent directly from the applicant’s current school (including documentation of all academic services they receive or accommodation plans such as a 504 or IEP that may be in place), and two recommendations submitted directly by the applicant’s Math and English teachers.

The reality of the extremely competitive college and university admissions landscape necessitates that a student have more to offer beyond the prerequisite strong academic profile. Transportation

Coaches and chaperones have access to school passenger vans to transport players to off-site games, academic field trips, and other recreational activities. Student-athlete cars are not permitted on campus.
