Navigating Academic Success: A Guide to UCF's Academic Support Resources

Centralized Support: The Student Academic Resource Center (SARC)

The Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) stands as a cornerstone of academic support at UCF. SARC provides academic support services for all UCF students, both face-to-face and online. As the learning center on campus, SARC offers high-quality academic support programs and services. SARC offers a variety of free services for all students, including: peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), academic coaching, academic success workshops, and a variety of online academic support resources. Your success is important!

Peer Tutoring: Learning from Fellow Knights

SARC provides free small group peer tutoring to students enrolled in undergraduate courses associated with the current UCF semester’s schedule. Peer tutoring sessions take place in the SARC Lab located in TCH 117; in the CECS Lab in ENG I room 281; and also at UCF’s Downtown campus in Dr. Phillips Academic Commons Room 330. Subject areas covered include - Accounting, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Human Physiology; as well as Game Level Design, Computer as a Medium, Client-Side Scripting, and Law and The Legal System at Downtown campus. One-on-one peer tutoring is available for students enrolled in a variety of undergraduate courses.

Supplemental Instruction (SI): Mastering Challenging Courses

Supplemental Instruction (SI) offers a series of weekly study sessions for students enrolled in historically challenging courses. Led by SI Leaders, students who have previously excelled in the course, these sessions provide collaborative environments to deepen understanding of course material and develop effective study strategies. SI Leaders attend the classes they support, ensuring they are well-versed in current content and expectations.

Academic Coaching and Engagement (ACE): Developing Essential Skills

The Academic Coaching and Engagement (ACE) Program facilitates academic success among UCF students by providing one-on-one, ongoing peer coaching. In the ACE program, peer consultants help students develop important academic and life skills such as organization, time management, study skills, online learning, and goal setting. Each semester, the Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) offers all UCF students the opportunity to enhance their learning and study skills through a series of Academic Success Workshops. Final Review Sessions: Ace Your Finals

During the fall and spring semesters, SARC tutors and SI Leaders host final review sessions at the Student Union during finals week. Sessions are live streamed and recorded via Panopto, the link to access the videos can be found here (Please note that videos will not appear until after the live-stream has started). Past semesters’ content can be viewed on the SARC YouTube channel or through the previous semesters Panopto folder.

Access Program: Supporting Incoming Freshmen

Every summer, SARC provides guidance and support to a targeted group of UCF freshmen students in the Access Program. Programming for this program includes mandatory academic advising requirements, supplemental instruction, goal setting and course monitoring, and access to peer mentors for additional support.

The John C. Hitt Library and its branch locations serve as vital hubs for academic resources and support.

John C. Hitt Library: A Central Hub for Learning

The John C. Hitt Library offers a variety of services to students and faculty. In addition to scholarly resources (books, articles, videos, etc.), students have access to newly renovated study spaces, technology and computer rentals, and basic functions such as printing, copying, and scanning. The John C. Hitt library is open seven days a week: Monday-Thursday 7:30 am-1 am, Friday 7:30 am-7 pm, Saturday 10 am-6 pm, and Sunday 12 pm-1 am. Additional OverKnight hours are available Sunday-Thursday 1 am-6 am. For the OverKnight hours, a UCF ID card is required for entry during these hours which only allows access to a portion of the second floor.

Branch Libraries: Accessible Resources Across Campuses

Our branch libraries are located in the Education Complex, at the Rosen campus, and at the downtown campus. Check branch, holiday, and intersession hours on the library hours page. The Addition Financial Downtown Campus Library offers access to books, study spaces, research assistance, access to databases, and course reserves.

Technology and IT Support: Staying Connected

UCF provides ample technology resources and support to ensure students have the tools they need to succeed in their studies.

Technology Commons: Computer Labs and Equipment Checkout

Technology Commons provides large computer labs, laptop and tablet checkout, and group study spaces in Technology Commons I, II, and Classroom Building I room 101. Technology Commons also includes the Student Support Desk to provide students support if they experience an issue with a PC or other devices.

Downtown Campus IT Support: On-Site Assistance

Downtown students have IT support and tech lending available on the second floor of Dr. Phillips Academic Commons East. Here, students can get help troubleshooting issues with their computers and borrow technology like cameras, MacBooks, laptops, cables, and more!

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) views disabilities as an integral part of the rich diversity at the University of Central Florida. Student Accessibility Services is responsible for determining reasonable disability-related accommodations for undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities at UCF.

University Testing Center (UTC): Accommodated Testing

The University Testing Center (UTC) is a standardized testing facility that administers entrance, placement, academic, certification and licensure, and pre-employment exams. A variety of exams are offered such as CLEP, Foreign Language Achievement Testing Services (FLATS), GRE, Pearson VUE, TEAS, TOEFL-iBT, the UCF Math Placement Test, and many others in order to support student learning and success. UTC works with the Office of Student Accessibility Services to provide accommodations for students with disabilities.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free-of-charge psychological services to enrolled UCF students.

Wellness and Health Promotion Services (WHPS): Promoting Healthy Habits

Wellness and Health Promotion Services (WHPS) provides programming and services to promote healthy lifestyle habits that increase higher academic performance. Outreach programming includes workshops on safe sex, nutrition, alcohol awareness and prevention efforts, stress management, sleep, healthy relationships, and body image. Additional services include HIV Testing and Risk Reduction Counseling, Wellness Coaching, SNAP education, Coupon classes, ScreenU (an online confidential substance use screening and intervention resource), and Biofeedback assisted relaxation training (stress management).

UCF Student Health Services: Healthcare on Campus

UCF Student Health Services provides a variety of primary and specialty care services to help keep students at their optimum health. The Health Center is located on the Main Campus, and satellite clinics are located at the Rosen campus and Health Sciences campus.

UCF Downtown: Dedicated Support Services

Are you a Knight with a major at the downtown campus? UCF Downtown has all the academic and student support services and resources you need to be successful. Advising for downtown majors within the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) is provided by Academic Success Coaches. Advising for downtown majors within the College of Science's Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) is provided by Academic Success Coaches. The Learning Support Center at the Downtown campus offers free drop-in tutoring for a variety of courses, along with equipment loans, study rooms, and a welcoming open study space.

UCF Connect: Extending Support to Regional Campuses

UCF Connect extends the academic support and student development efforts of the Main UCF Orlando campus to those students who attend classes or live near one of UCF’s ten UCF Connect Centers. A comprehensive range of resources are available at the UCF Connect Centers, such as admissions, registration, financial aid, advising, student clubs and organizations, accessibility services, veteran’s affairs, “smart classrooms,” libraries, computer labs, and more. Academic advising is available for programs offered at UCF Connect Centers in conjunction with the Departmental and College Advising offices. Additionally, UCF Libraries support students, faculty, and staff wherever UCF teaches classes.

UCF Online Connect Center: Support for Online Learners

The UCF Online Connect Center is a specialized coaching and support center for our UCF Online students. From application to graduation, the UCF Online Connect Center team works with our UCF Online students as advocates and guides throughout their online experiences at UCF. Every student in a UCF Online program is assigned a Success Coach who are the students’ main point of contact at UCF. Success Coaches collaborate with students to develop a holistic strategy to help overcome any challenges during their online educational journey. A Success Coach provides high-level support, coordination, and guidance for UCF Online students from the time of admission through graduation. Students can contact their Success Coach for anything nonacademic.
