UC Irvine Admitted Student Checklist: A Comprehensive Guide to Enrollment
Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of California, Irvine (UCI)! This article provides a comprehensive checklist to help you navigate the essential steps before starting your academic journey at UCI. From activating your UCInetID to understanding health insurance options, this guide will ensure a smooth transition into the Anteater family.
Getting Started: Essential First Steps
Activate Your UCInetID
Your UCInetID is your key to accessing UCI's online resources. It's a name-based username, typically a 3-8 letter combination of your first and last name, which you can find on your applicant portal.
- Why it's important: You'll need it for Financial Aid, Housing, Student Health, and other university systems.
- How to activate: Use the UCInetID Activation link as an applicant.
- Password Reset: If you've forgotten your password, you can change or reset it online.
Submit Your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and Deposits
To officially secure your spot in the class, you must submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and the required deposits. Note that both deposits submitted to UC Irvine Law are non-refundable from the moment they are submitted.
Complete the Statement of Legal Residence (SLR)
All new students who have submitted their SIR must also complete the Statement of Legal Residence (SLR). The Statement of Legal Residence is used by the campus registrar to determine your legal state of residence for tuition and fee assessment. All UC Irvine students are required to complete this form prior to matriculation.
Academic Requirements and Preparation
Submit Official Transcripts and Test Scores
Ensure all official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions where you were awarded a degree, as well as any transcripts verifying completed prerequisite coursework, are sent to the Admissions Office.

- Deadline: The deadline to submit all documents to Admissions is July 1st. The UC Irvine School of Medicine Admissions Office must receive these transcript(s) prior to matriculation and by July 15th to guarantee your matriculation.
- Transcript Details: Verification of degree(s) must be on the transcripts. If your institution cannot provide verification of the degree awarded on a final transcript by this date, please provide an official letter from the department chair verifying that the requirements have been met for the degree. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Associate Dean of Admissions prior to July 1st.
- Important Note: AMCAS does not forward transcripts to medical schools.
School of Medicine: Confidentiality Agreement
The Confidentiality Agreement is required of all students for access to the UC Irvine Health information system and must be submitted by July 15th.
Health and Well-being
Immunization and Health Records (School of Medicine)
As an incoming medical student, your health records will be managed by the Student Health Center.
- Specific Requirements: Your Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B requirements are specific to medical students and should be uploaded to the Student Health Center system with your other required immunizations to be included as a part of your student health record.
- Review Process: These requirements will be reviewed through a separate system, MyRecordTracker, after you matriculate.
- Scheduling Immunizations: To schedule an appointment for immunization, please book online at My Student Chart.
Health Insurance Coverage (GSHIP)
As a student at UC Irvine, you will be required to have health insurance coverage.
- Automatic Enrollment: As an accepted student, you are automatically enrolled in the graduate student health insurance plan (GSHIP).
- Waiving GSHIP: If you choose to waive out of the GSHIP plan, then you must provide proof of health insurance coverage that complies with UC’s waiver criteria. Note that waiving out does not result in a refund of the associated funds.
- Dependent Coverage: All graduate students who are enrolled in GSHIP have the option to enroll eligible dependents in a voluntary plan. The plan provides medical insurance and the option to add dental and vision benefits. Enrollment in the dependent plan is managed by Academic Health Plans (AHP) on behalf of GSHIP and all carriers.
Disability Services
Students who experience all types of disabilities are eligible for support services. UC Irvine’s Disability Services Center (DSC) provides a variety of services and accommodations. To request services or accommodations for the upcoming academic year, you must register with the Disability Services Center. You must have your UCInetID and provide documentation verifying your disability.
Housing
Apply for Student Housing
UC Irvine Student Housing is now accepting applications!

- Application Process: Applications are processed in the order received and include a $20 processing fee for all first-time housing applications.
- SIR Requirement: You do not have to submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) before completing your application, as this was automatically transmitted to housing when you indicated your acceptance through your applicant portal.
- Accessing the Application: You will, however, need to activate your UCInetID (not Student ID or AAMC ID) and password to access the housing application.
Financial Matters
Federal Loans Entrance Counseling
The purpose of the Federal Loans Entrance Counseling is to share with you everything you are required to know about the loans you are borrowing to finance your medical school education. The entrance counseling also covers a few other strategies relevant to financing your education and to successfully manage your money as a student.
Tuition and Fees
Figures for tuition and fees represent currently approved or proposed amounts and may not be final. Actual tuition and fees are subject to change by the University of California as determined to be necessary or appropriate.
Orientation and Welcome Events
Mandatory Summer Orientation
In-person summer orientation is mandatory for all new freshman students and will be registered for separately.
School of Medicine Orientation (2026)
Orientation is mandatory and will be held in person from Monday, August 3, through Friday, August 7, 2026, at the UC Irvine School of Medicine - Medical Education Campus. Technology Requirements (School of Medicine)
iPad Requirement
All students are required to have an iPad during medical school. You will be awarded a $300 technology scholarship to be used toward the purchase of an iPad.
- Recommended Model: We recommend that you purchase an iPad Pro model to be able to take full advantage of the screen size/resolution and processing speeds.
- Alternative Option: If cost is an issue, the $329 iPad 2025 is a good option.
- Apple Pencil: For any model, we strongly recommend getting the Apple Pencil - our students have really benefited from the ability to handwrite notes and annotate/draw during their studies. The Apple Pencil (USB-C) is $69 and the Apple Pencil Pro is $119.
- AppleCare: Another strong recommendation is AppleCare.
- Using an Existing iPad: If your iPad is a recent model, then you can apply that $300 towards technology accessories (Pencil and/or Keyboard), or even towards a laptop or additional device if desired.
- Storage Size: Students can function well with the 128GB base size if they are using the device just for medical school; however, you will need to have a reliable cloud storage provider to save documents that are not readily being used.
Other Important Steps
Obtain Your ZotKey (Student ID Card)
You will need a ZotKey (student ID card) while at UCI. You must submit a photo online and have it approved before orientation. Photos are approved/denied within 48 hours (excluding weekends). If your photo is denied, you must submit another photo for approval.
International Students: Visa Information
If you are an international student, you may need to apply for a visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. The consular officer will determine whether you qualify for the visa.
