Maximizing Your Potential: Exploring the Benefits of Alpine Student Living

Choosing where to live during your college years is a crucial decision that can significantly impact your academic performance, social life, and overall well-being. Alpine student living options offer a range of benefits designed to enhance the student experience, whether you choose to live on or off campus. This article explores the advantages of various alpine student living arrangements, drawing on examples from different institutions and communities.

On-Campus Living: A Foundation for Success

Living on campus provides a positive transition to college and a more successful academic and social experience. National research indicates that students who live on campus tend to excel academically and graduate at a faster rate than those who live off campus, which makes on-campus living a great option.

Convenience and Accessibility

Living minutes away from everything you'll need as a student makes on-campus living very convenient. You are minutes away from your classes, the library, the parking garage, University Center, the Recreation Center, the Campus Store, and many other places that you will frequent while being a student.

Financial Predictability

Students pay for housing on a semester basis. There is no need to save for monthly rent, high speed internet access, electricity, furniture, and water- it’s included in the price. Because you pay by semester, you do not have to worry about the rising cost of utilities in the winter.

Support and Safety

Resident Assistants and professional staff members are on call every night of the year. The campus police department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a night security officer in Housing.

Community and Engagement

Resident Assistants and student organizations offer programs and activities in the Housing Villages for residents. Your classmates are down the hall, and on the floors above and below you. UCCS has partnered with Ent to provide students with the Lion OneCard Program. Getting around Colorado Springs is easier with Mountain Metro bus passes available FREE to on campus students through UCCS.

Roommate Options and Conflict Resolution

Options for roommate assignment include private living (Mote Hall and apartments), semi-private living (two-bedroom apartment only), or roommate living (Residence Hall and apartments). Fill out your application request carefully to provide crucial information to assist with roommate assignment. You can always choose your own roommate if you know someone coming to school with you, but if you do not, and you request roommate living, one will be assigned based on your application information. If your roommate does not work out, CWC will work with you to provide an alternate assignment. Contact the Housing Manager for any information on a roommate or room changes and they will work with you and your roommate to either resolve the issue or make necessary changes. We only ask that you work hard at resolving any conflicts first before using a roommate change request.

Policies and Regulations

While the complexes are co-ed, all room/apartment assignments are done single sex. No co-habitation is allowed unless married. Central Wyoming College has a variety of policies to address the behavior. Read the CWC Student Handbook 2024-2025 for detailed policies. CWC is a non-alcohol campus, regardless of age. Disciplinary action will be taken against any resident or guest who violates this or any other substance abuse policy. Quiet hours exist in all complexes from 10pm to 10am, Sunday - Thursday, and Midnight to 10am, Friday and Saturday. To comply with fire codes and to further enhance the safety of all residents, smoking, including e-cigarettes and any open flame (including incense) are not allowed in ANY complex within housing. Smoking is allowed outside.

Non-Discrimination

Consistent with its mission to value diversity and to treat all individuals with dignity and respect, Central Wyoming College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, religion, or disability in admission or access to, or treatment or employment in its educational program services or activities. The college makes reasonable accommodations to serve students with special needs and offers services to students who have the ability to benefit.

Transfer Residential Communities: Easing the Transition

Orientation and Transition Programs, in collaboration with University Housing, is pleased to offer an exciting living opportunity for transfer students. The Transfer Residential Communities, housed in Summit and Laurel Village - Alpine Halls, are a great option for transfer students who are new to CSU. These communities focus on easing your transition to CSU by enhancing connections with other students and the campus. They have all the convenience of living on campus plus the benefit of living with others who can relate to the transfer student experience. There is no additional application to live in these spaces. Students will complete the Housing Application and then participate in the general room selection. Based on their admission status, transfer students are granted access to transfer student-specific spaces. The transfer floors fill up in the fall, but occasionally a limited number of spots become available in the spring semester.
