KTEC opened its doors in August 2012, the culmination of a collaborative effort between the Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, and Lakeland school districts, along with local business leaders. KTEC distinguishes itself by offering industry-focused training that prepares students for certification exams or further education. Students remain enrolled at their sending school while attending KTEC for three periods each day. This structure lets students take core academic classes at their home school while receiving specialized technical training at KTEC. The campus operates on a three-session schedule with morning, midday, and afternoon options, providing flexibility for students to balance their academic and technical pursuits. All instruction happens in person because the hands-on nature of technical skills requires on-campus training.

The Auto Body Collision & Repair program introduces students to the collision repair industry, focusing on the basic skills required to become an entry-level technician. Students learn in an Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Approved Facility.
