Unlock Your Academic Dreams: UTA Scholarships for International Students

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is committed to making quality education accessible to all, including international students. Understanding the financial challenges international students may face, UTA offers a range of scholarships and financial aid opportunities to help them achieve their academic aspirations. With over $40 million in scholarships awarded each academic year, UTA strives to support deserving students in their pursuit of higher education.

Affordable Education at UTA

UTA believes that financial constraints should not be a barrier to obtaining an excellent education. The university combines nationally recognized academics with one of the most affordable college experiences in Texas. Through generous financial aid packages and scholarships that reward hard work, UTA helps students keep their costs low and their future bright. Graduating with less debt provides more freedom to chase your goals. In addition to scholarships, UTA offers over $500 million in financial aid each academic year.

Merit-Based Scholarships for Incoming Students

UTA's merit-based scholarships are available to incoming first-year and transfer students. However, these scholarships are only available at the start of the incoming fall semester. To be considered for UTA's merit-based scholarships, students must submit all required documents to UTA Admissions before the scholarship deadline. By meeting this requirement, all new, incoming students are considered for these scholarships.

How to Apply for Scholarships

Applications for scholarships must start after you finish your UT Arlington admissions application process. Students are eligible to apply for scholarship opportunities on Mav ScholarShop once admitted to UTA.

Mav ScholarShop: Your One-Stop Scholarship Resource

Mav ScholarShop is a comprehensive platform designed to provide you with access to UTA’s scholarship offerings. As a current or newly-admitted student, Mav ScholarShop has created a student profile for you - also referred to as a general application based on your information in MyMav. All available scholarship opportunities automatically render when you click the "Available Scholarship Opportunities" button. You must log in before you will be able to apply. Check back regularly to review your profile and to look for new scholarship opportunities. Just because you see an available scholarship application doesn't mean that you are qualified for the scholarship opportunities within that application. Scholarship deadlines vary, so log in often to view any new scholarships or to check on pending scholarship applications. Qualifying and applying to scholarships does not guarantee that you will be offered a scholarship. This is a competitive process. You can check to see if you have been offered a scholarship by looking under the "Awards" tab. The 2025-2026 General Scholarship Application for All Students is now open! You will need to complete this application to be considered for scholarships that are for fall.

Through the Mav ScholarShop application system, UTA's different departments, colleges, and organizations provide millions of dollars in additional scholarships for our students. Most scholarships on Mav ScholarShop are available to all students, regardless of residency.

Specific Scholarship Programs

While the Scholarships Office does not offer scholarships for incoming graduate students, students in a non-degree seeking program, accelerated online students, or students in the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP), there are still several programs that international students can explore.

Terry Scholarship Program

The Terry Scholarship program is for incoming freshman students. Through this program, considering other scholarships and grants, the Terry Scholarship covers the total cost of tuition, fees, books, and on-campus living expenses.

Texas Leadership Scholars Program

The Texas Leadership Scholars program seeks top-performing students with demonstrated financial need, leadership in their high school community, and academic success.

Tuition Assistance for Mexican Students (TAMS)

The Tuition Assistance for Mexican Students (TAMS) scholarship, also referred to as PASE (Programa de Asistencia Estudiantil), provides a waiver of the non-resident portion of a student's tuition bill for qualified students. TAMS is not a cash award. To be eligible for TAMS, you must be a citizen and resident of Mexico who demonstrates financial need. This is a competitive process as the number of awards allotted per semester is limited. The TAMS is available to new and continuing students who demonstrate financial need.

Additional Financial Aid Options

In addition to scholarships, international students can explore other financial aid options to help cover their educational expenses.

Grants

Grants are federal and state-funded aid that normally do not require repayment. You can begin applying for federal financial aid for the 2026-2027 school year by completing the FAFSA. The Blaze Forward program makes it even easier for you to get a world class education at UTA!

Private Student Loans

Private student loans are available to international students through a variety of lenders. These loans have variable interest rates and repayment terms, and typically require a credit check. Students can find additional information about private student loans on our Alternative Loans webpage.

Mustaque Ahmed Loan Fund

The Mustaque Ahmed Loan Fund is also available to international students. The fund provides short-term loans for immediate short-term emergency needs. Mustaque Ahmed, a UTA alumnus from Bangladesh, enjoyed the educational, social and cultural opportunities provided by The University of Texas at Arlington. Mr. Ahmed, now a dedicated alumnus, has recognized the need to provide an additional source of financial support for students experiencing many of the same opportunities and unique challenges presented to him as an international student. The Mustaque Ahmed Loan Fund is used to provide short-term loans to UTA students for immediate short-term emergency needs.

Important Considerations for International Students

The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requires that you show proof that adequate resources are available to meet your first year of educational and living expenses. For future international undergraduate students, the current estimated cost is $42,706. For future international graduate students, the current estimated cost is $41,230. A completed financial statement form must be completed and returned with the indicated documentation before an I-20 can be issued. If you are on an F-1 (student) visa, you must have established transfer eligibility before transfer is initiated by UTA by submitting a school transfer notification. You can also view admissions requirements and forms through our designated apply pages.
